It’s Tuesday! Welcome to my Tuesday Tidbit series, a short blog post with inspiration, every Tuesday. Catch up on the last Tuesday Tidbit. This week, my Tuesday Tidbit was inspired by my beautiful cousin. Her wedding encouraged everyone to unplug. Put down your phone. Live in the moment. Dance like no one is watching. Okay, enough clichés. But seriously, it was a fantastic idea on her part.
Last week, our family was on vacation in the lakes region in New Hampshire. We went home for my cousin’s wedding, but decided to turn it into a vacation to visit family. I began to stress about getting some blog posts done. I brought my laptop, but didn’t use it. I didn’t want to miss any smiles from my four month old babe. I didn’t want to miss the wind messing up my hair while we cruised around on the boat. I didn’t want to miss any chilly early morning coffees on the porch. I didn’t want to miss any laughs with family and friends.
I traded blogging for quality time with my family that I don’t get to see very often, and I don’t regret it one bit. My laptop served as the most expensive folder, holding the speech for my cousin’s wedding tucked inside so it’d stay safe. That’s it.
I do realize the irony in encouraging you to unplug, while you are reading this post on some sort of electronic device. But, I wanted to pass on this reminder to look up from your devices and take time to unplug.
Do you and your family have any rules about taking a break from your devices? I’d love to hear how you take time to unplug and enjoy quality time together. Let me know in the comment section below.
