A Christmas Tag: Holiday Questions

What better time to write a Christmas post, than on Christmas eve? I hope you are all having a great holiday enjoying your time with your family and friends.

My friend, Elizabeth, from Uncustomary Housewife tagged me in this super fun Christmas questionnaire. Read her Holiday Question Post!

Question: Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

This is a trick question. I love giving the perfect gift, but finding the perfect gift is next to impossible for me. I have the HARDEST time finding gifts. In a time where someone can order something and have it on their doorstep in two days, I feel as though everyone can quickly get what they want before I can think of it.

Question: Do you make and stick to New Year’s resolutions?

I try to make them, but I rarely stick with them. I try to make simpler ones that are easier to follow. Instead of saying, “I need to eat healthy” I say, “I need to make healthier choices.” It allows you to have a little wiggle room to complete your goal. I think it’s important to make improvements, but you don’t have to be perfect.

Question: Have you ever made a snowman?

Nope. We have plenty of snow, but I have never had the opportunity.

Question: Is your Christmas tree real or fake, and what theme do you prefer?

We normally have a real tree. I love the tradition of picking one out, and the smell of it in your home, but this year we went with fake. Since we are traveling we didn’t want to risk it dying.

My theme is sort of glam. I had a few trees so I had kind of different vibes for all of them.

Three of my four trees.

Question: Most memorable holiday moment?

This is a weird one. For me, I don’t know what it is, I hold on to the bad stuff. I am sure I had 25 great Christmases, but the most memorable holiday moment for me is the year I didn’t have a tree.

Now I need to throw a little disclaimer in here, my mom was having a bad year. As an adult I can totally see how if you are in a funk that you wouldn’t want to decorate. For me, it’s the opposite, when I am in a funk I LOVE to decorate, but everyone is different.

Anyway, back to the story, I was probably 10 or so and my mom just wasn’t feeling it that year. I was so upset that when my cousin came over, she took me in the backyard and helped me dig up a tree. We spent the afternoon making paper decorations and my mom was so excited when she saw it. I think she saved some of the silly ornaments off of it. I always remember the year without a tree.

Question: What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

I don’t think we have many traditions yet, but now is a good time to start some!

Question: What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?

Hmm. I’ve been very blessed to receive amazing material objects as gifts—but I’m really thankful that this year we got to come home and visit with all of our friends and family. I’m also super excited I have a daughter to share Christmas with! Even though she doesn’t know what’s going on yet, it is still so exciting!

Question: What are your favorite holiday foods?

I like all the food! I am bad though, once I start picking at something I can’t stop. I can easily say no, that isn’t the problem, but if I eat one cookie I’ll want to eat 10!

Question: What is your favorite Christmas film?

ELF. ELF makes me so happy. This quote explains one of my favorite scenes, “You did it! Congratulations! World’s best cup of coffee! Great job, everybody! It’s great to be here.”

Question: What is your favorite thing about Christmas?

I love spending time with family and the twinkly glow of Christmas lights.

Twinkly lights.

Question: What would be your dream place to visit at Christmas time?

Maybe not a specific place—but it would be a dream to rent a huge cabin for all my family to stay in. You know, the one with the giant dreamy fireplace and the 20ft tall Christmas tree. My parents are divorced and I’d love to wake up Christmas morning and have all my family and my husband’s family in one place.

Question: Who do you spend Christmas with?

Christmas gets crazy. I will always spend Christmas with my husband and my daughter, but it varies each year which extended family we see. We used to try to do it all in one day—and honestly, it ruined the fun for me. We’d pop in as many as four homes in one day. This year, now that my daughter is here, I’m making sure I see all my family, but on various different days.

Question: When do you start getting excited about Christmas?

I get excited after Halloween. This year we put our tree up at the end of October. Yup, you read that right. My husband and I usually don’t go that early, but we were super excited about the new fake tree we bought we couldn’t wait.

Question: You have one Christmas wish – what will it be?

This is impossible—and silly. But I wish my 8-month-old baby girl could stay little forever. Right now, I’m her favorite person and her smiles melt my heart. I would love to be able to have my little baby forever.

My little lovebug.

Thank you so much Elizabeth for the tag! I love doing these fun games. If you haven’t checked out her blog, Uncustomary Housewife, you really need to!
