11 Essentials for your new dream kitchen!

Have you noticed that your kitchen is the place where your guests hang out when you are hosting? Kitchens always tend to be a gathering place–whether you are hosting or in your day-to-day life. I spend so much time in my kitchen. It’s my first stop in the morning to get water and coffee. I’ve created this post to help you build out your dream kitchen! My husband and I have moved around a lot. We had a kitchen that was poorly designed with missing cabinets and minimal counter space. One of the drawers wouldn’t open because it would smash into the fridge. We don’t miss that kitchen. We also…

    How to install wainscoting

When we first moved in, my husband used the room that was supposed to be a dining room as his office. It was an EYESORE. Don’t tell him I said that. He moved his office because he missed having a door anyway, so he could shut the door for his conference calls. I was excited that I didn’t have to stare at his messy desk anymore. But after he moved all his stuff, we were left with this empty room. I wasn’t sure what to do with it. I didn’t need a dining room and I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on furniture. We decided to make it…

    How to paint laminate furniture

I found these shelves on Craigslist cheap! I’ve been looking for shelving for the nursery and buying new can get expensive. I was excited when I saw these because I could repaint them!  I asked the person who posted the ad what material they were and he said that they were wood. I was a bit skeptical. Sure enough when I saw them in person, I knew they weren’t real wood. Painting real wood is different than painting laminate, and I outlined how I did it below. This post contains affiliate links. Learn more. Here’s what I used to paint laminate shelves: 3M Very Fine Hand Sanding Pads (I got mine…

    Simple Nursery Decor

I’m really excited about this post, mostly because how much money I saved! I had a vision for this design in my head, a frame around the letter “M” (my babe’s first initial) with some flower petals scattered around. Feminine and simple. I went to buy a simple unpainted wooden frame at a well known craft store, with no glass, just the frame, and they wanted $50 for it! I was shocked. That was not what I was expecting and I certainly didn’t want to pay that much. After I gave it some thought, I decided it couldn’t be that hard to make it myself. I went to Home Depot…

DIY Farmhouse Table – Refurbish your Table!

I’ve wanted to paint this table for a long time, so I decided to turn it into a farmhouse table. It was in our kitchen at our old house, and it didn’t fit in then. Our old house was gray and modern, with dark hardwood floors and a white kitchen. And there was this table, a wheat or golden oak color, sticking out like a sore thumb.  Now it’s here, staring at me at our new house, and it still doesn’t match. Our new house is filled with dark wood. Everything is dark brown. The cabinets are dark wood and even the curtains that came with the house are dark…

    DIY Laundry Symbol Guide

Every time I do laundry, I find my self triple checking each label of my wet clothes, trying to figure out if I can throw my items in the dryer or if I have to hang them. I pull out my phone and google what each symbol means because I can never remember! This week, I decided to make my own chart of symbols that I see frequently so I speed up my time doing laundry.

    DIY Laundry Mirror Sign

This month, I’m focusing on sprucing up my laundry room. I hope to add some cute decor and some functional pieces. My first addition to the laundry room is this DIY laundry room sign. I LOVE decorating with mirrors. They can add more light and give the illusion of depth. I have no idea where this mirror came from, but I’ve had it as long as I can remember and no one has missed it. It traveled with me in our move to Minnesota, and no one asked where it went, so I didn’t feel guilty painting it. This is what it looked like before:
