    Well, it’s my birthday!

This birthday isn’t a big one, but this past year was the year of “realizing stuff”. Don’t hate me for referencing KUWTK. I was a long time hater, until I had nothing to watch when I was nursing 24/7 during my maternity leave. Now, I want to be adopted by Kris Jenner. Okurrrrr. Reflecting in this past year, I’ve learned a lot about myself with the help of my daughter. She’s almost one, stay tuned for her one year update in a few days! She has opened my heart, not only to her, but she’s opened my heart to let go of my past and take in new experiences. Wait,…

Distance makes the heart grow fonder

I titled this with the cliché distance makes the heart grow fonder because I understand this now that I live far from all my friends and family. I think I took for granted the convenience there was when I could visit them on a whim. When my in-laws left on Sunday, I cried, but don’t tell them! My father-in-law is the sap in the family, I can’t take his place! I’ve really grown fond of them, and I hate to see them leave. I’ve known them for 10ish years now. That’s a DECADE. Though, I just learned that my father-in-law salts his pizza. UMM WHAT? You think you know someone…

Unpopular opinion: Having dogs is the worst

Before you storm down my street with pitchforks and torches, hear me out. I’m not asking you to join my bandwagon, I’m just asking you to read my rant about the asshole I share a roof with. I have two dogs, and one is really chill, but the other (who I’ve ranted about here) is obnoxious on a whole other level. He’s the one on the left in the photo above. Not the pitbull. He thinks it’s his responsibility to protect the house, so I have to live in darkness with all the shades closed around the house so he has nothing to bark at. Every time he barks I…

    Hosting out of town guests

I love hosting out of town guests! I’ve outlined some great tips you can use to make your guests feel right at home. We get a lot of guests because we moved far away from all family in friends for work. You can read about if you should move for a job, or about our first year in Minnesota! I think hosting out of town guests is a lot like staging a home. You want to make the guest feel warm and welcome. Open up the shades, turn the lights on, and light a candle right before they arrive. Think about what you would want if you traveled to a…

Should I move for a job?

You’ve likely stumbled across this post because you’ve gotten an amazing job offer or you’ve heard that you can find work in a new place and you are wondering if you should move for a job. My husband and I moved for work and I’ve outlined our experience here. Should I move for a job? Short answer: HECK YES. Medium-length answer: If you are single and you have nothing holding you back, HECK YES. Long answer: Well. Let’s get started, shall we? I love living in Minnesota–I genuinely love it. (You can read about our first year.) But it’s hard AF being away from family with a little child. That’s…

Life lessons from an air fryer

Things I’m good at: Sticking my foot in my mouth. I can’t tell you why I do this, just sometimes things come out that I shouldn’t say and most likely don’t mean. It’s word vomit. I only realize how dumb and rude they were after I say them. I seriously never mean them to sound as bad as they are. They have a different meaning in my head and my intention wasn’t to hurt anyone’s feelings. Disclosure: Some of the links below in this article are affiliate links. A Christmas Tag: Holiday Questions

What better time to write a Christmas post, than on Christmas eve? I hope you are all having a great holiday enjoying your time with your family and friends. My friend, Elizabeth, from Uncustomary Housewife tagged me in this super fun Christmas questionnaire. Read her Holiday Question Post! Question: Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts? This is a trick question. I love giving the perfect gift, but finding the perfect gift is next to impossible for me. I have the HARDEST time finding gifts. In a time where someone can order something and have it on their doorstep in two days, I feel as though everyone can quickly get…

    Our Family Christmas Letter 2018

Hey there! Welcome to our very first family Christmas letter. I don’t know what I am doing, so bear with me. Fun fact: I initially wrote this entire damn thing in third person, but it sounded bizarre so I scrapped it. “Bri did this” and “Bri did that.” Well. I am Bri. I am writing. My old boss would write this hilariously witty family Christmas letter in third person every year so I thought I should give it a shot. Turns out, I am terrible at writing in the third person. And, now I’m boring you with this lengthy explanation. Anyway. Incase you haven’t heard me mention it a thousand…

    Our family photos!

Let’s set the scene. We scheduled our family photos for late October and when the day came it was a mere 35°F (2°C) outside. Winter came fast this year in Minnesota. (Read about our first year in Minnesota!) As you can imagine, our little girl was not a happy camper. She is usually extra smiley, but you’ll notice that we didn’t get many photos of her smiling. We spent a lot of time running to the car trying to warm her back up. Even though it was FREEZING outside, I am still really pleased with how our photos came out! Working with Christa, from Christa Reed Photography was awesome. She…

Why I’m thankful for my miscarriage

I thought I’d be half in the bag when I posted this blog entry. Truthfully, I am sober and nervous. I’ve been flip flopping all month. Do I post about my miscarriage? Do I scrap it? Now is as good a time as any. Here we are, on October 31st and October is miscarriage awareness month. And as I’m sure you figured out by the title of this article, I’ve had a miscarriage. About 15% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, according to March of Dimes. You must be thinking, “Thankful?! How is she thankful?!” It’s called ‘reframing,’ my friends.  It’s important to reframe your thoughts to move on. And…
